The Great Selebi Raid

These derelict aircraft had been imported from Ethiopia by a collector, John Sayers, for restoration in Johannesburg. The South African Police Service caried out a raid on the premises believing that there were illegal weapons imported with the aircraft. The raid was headed by the hapless criminal, National Commissioner of Police himself (seen in the photos), Jackie Selebi (also at one time Head of Interpol!) who was later convicted and jailed for corruption.

All aircraft and components including the rusted weapons had been cleared for import by authorities prior to shipment.
